In 2023, Jerrel enrolled in the Fresh Start Professional Services digital literacy program — not as a consultant, not as a CEO, but as a student. He earned his CompTIA ITF+ certification, went into the field learning digital broadband infrastructure, and within months was deploying real technology in real communities.
His dedication didn't stop at a certificate. When the devastating Maui wildfires hit, Jerrel joined a relief mission to help rebuild their digital broadband infrastructure from the ground up. His leadership earned him a promotion to Project Lead Manager, where he ran teams deploying broadband not just in Maui, but across Eastern Washington's low-income housing communities and at the McKinney Center in Seattle's Central District.
At the McKinney Center — formerly the Seattle Vocational Institute — Jerrel helped build the digital broadband infrastructure that connected an entire community hub. This wasn't theoretical. He was pulling cable, configuring patch panels, and solving problems on-site alongside his team.
Jerrel's impact was undeniable. He was offered the role of Lead Digital Literacy Instructor for Fresh Start Professional Services, where he personally taught four cohorts of individuals who lacked basic digital skills — and successfully graduated every one of them. These weren't just classes. These were life changes — helping people become employable, self-sufficient, and an asset to their communities.
